(linux_command_line)-> Samba Config Network Browser submited by Russell Mon 07 Mar 05

I have a problem with my office lan where sometimes Win XP boxes can't browse the lan.

The solution seems to be to make sure a linux box and not a Win XP box runs as the workgroup master. These Lines:
preferred master = Yes
os level = 35
Go in the [global] section of /etc/samba/smb.conf

This tells the Linux box that it should always run the lan. I still have the problem from time to time usualy if the windows machine was booted while the linux server was down. Restarting the win XP box (while the linux box is already running ) fixes the problem.
