Simple Optimization for PHP and MySQL These all make sence, but besides using indexes and generaly not putting stuff in the DB that doesn't need to be, these arn't earth shattering improvments. I don't think that a site that had these problems would go from unable to handle 1000's of hits per second to being able to.
I know this sloppy little site could never handle a digg/slash dotting. The simplest requests hit the database like 4 times.
